Protection Policy of Andeanface |
Duty
of Care
"The duty, which rests upon an individual or organisation,
to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure
the safety of any person involved in any activity, for
which that individual or organisation is responsible."
In the outdoors, safety
and keeping people safe is about the appropriate assessment
of risk to minimise those involved at all levels of
participation. While all taking part in activity have
a duty to their neighbours, in organised activity we
all have a heightened duty of care, and as such we should
be aware that the principle risks extend to the quality
of control exercised by those in charge. Leaders and
guides should all take ‘reasonable’ steps
to safeguard those directly taking part in activities
and at any time they may be deemed responsible for those
in their charge – in vehicles, during journeys
and throughout the organised activity/expedition.
Policy
Andeanface
accepts that in all matters concerning child protection,
the welfare and protection of the child is paramount.
It
is the policy of Andeanface to safeguard the welfare
of all young people and others involved in our expeditions
by protecting them from neglect, physical, sexual and
emotional harm.
We
follow this code of behaviour when working with young
people:
• Treat everyone with respect.
•
Provide an example you wish others to follow.
•
Plan activities that avoid you working in isolation
with a young person wherever possible.
•
Have separate sleeping accommodation for adults and
young people, or where this is not possible, e.g. Alpine
huts, ensure that parents, school staff and the participants
are aware of this before hand.
•
Encourage young people and adults to feel comfortable
and caring enough to point out behaviours and attitudes
they do not like.
•
Encourage a healthy environmentally aware lifestyle.
•
Remember others may misinterpret your action no matter
how well intentioned.
•
Recognise that caution is required even in sensitive
moments of counselling such as dealing with bullying,
bereavement or abuse.

Andeanface
has been organising educational expeditions
for young people which include outdoor activities
like climbing, hiking, camping, rafting and
voluntary work with the local communities of
the areas that we visit. Working with young
people requires a continuous back up support
from our team. As a responsible operator that
works with youngsters we have a seriously defined
policy of work.

Cultural
Interaction
We
believe that cultural interaction is a great
aspect in every educational expedition that
we organise. People in the Andes are culturally
different than in western countries. And
although there is a different language,
traditions and history, human values are
the same in most societies. In any of our
voluntary work programs, students will have
the chance to interact with local people
who are related to the projects.
We think that cultural interaction is the
best way to ultimately understand one another
and therefore avoid racial and social prejudice.
There
is a lot to learn from people in the Andes.
In rural areas, they normally have a basic
economy, and live in small villages. Students
will be delighted to see that they are warm
hearted and spontaneous to foreign visitors.
We can provide the following services to
educational organisations and school groups:
Guides:
We can provide experienced and qualified
bilingual guides who have great knowledge
of the mountains and areas that we visit.
They all are friendly, cheerful people that
will make sure that everythig runs smoothly
and you have a great experience on your
adventure.

Transport
Our vehicles are very reliable; we can provide
transport to the mountains in 4x4 jeeps and
in minibuses.
Catering
Our cooks have lots of experience. They prepare
very tasty meals to high standards. Our menus
are well balanced with a fair amount of the
carbohydrates needed for the hikes and climbs.
Special dietary needs can be catered for.

Camping
gear
We provide excellent high altitude tents.
We use Terra Nova Quasar tents (3 pax),
where two people can sleep very comfortably.
Mess tents, kitchen and toilet tents are
available.
Back up service
and emergency evacuation
In the case of an emergency due to a
medical or high altitude related problem
we provide a 24 hour back up service,
no matter in which region of Ecuador.
We can count on an excellent network
of medical specialists. Most of them
work at Hospital Metropolitano (www.hospitalmetropolitano.org),
which is considered to be one of the
best-equipped hospitals in South America.

Permits
We provide special permits to restricted mountain
regions which are in private ownership such
as Antisana, Quilindaña, the eastern
access of Pasochoa, the northern side of Rumiñahui,
etc. We have all the licenses (operation permits)
needed to be able to transport people into
National Parks and Reserves.
Mobile
Phones and Radios
In any expedition an important element of
safety is communication.
We provide mobiles and Motorola radios.
Most of the mountain regions of Ecuador
have access to mobile signals. In case there
is no signal we provide Motorola radios
to enable communication between different
parties in your expedition.
We
will be happy to hear the specific interest
of your school group, so that we can provide
you with any additional information you
might require. |
